What Causes Hair Loss?

Other than skin disorders such as alopecia and cancer, a major cause is sebum, the oil secreted by the scalp. Sebum is a toxic mixture of keratins, hydrocarbons, waxes and fatty acids, which irritate the scalp. Some of the sources are hair removal ingredients, shampoos, conditioners, sprays, and treatments. Many of these culprits contain waxes, which clog the pores and follicles. Most shampoos can clean out some of the waxes but not all of them. The sebaceous glands then discharge sebum into each hair follicle where it should flow out to the scalp. As we age, the sebum contains less oil and more fatty acids. As sebum begins to become clogged, the root becomes weaker and hair is separated from the cubicle.
